The Pongamia Tree, scientifically known as Pongamia glabra and commonly called Pongam or Indian Beech, is a medium-sized evergreen tree in the Fabaceae family. Native to India, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka, it has also been introduced to other tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. The tree can grow up to 4 m in height and develops a spreading crown with a diameter of up to 10 m, providing shade and a substantial canopy.

The leaves are alternate, pinnate, and composed of 6–9 oblong or elliptic leaflets. During flowering season, the tree produces fragrant white or pinkish flowers arranged in racemes. These are followed by pods measuring 2–3 inches long, containing 1–4 round, brown seeds with a hard outer shell. Pongamia glabra is valued not only for its ornamental appeal but also for its practical uses: the seeds produce oil that serves as a biofuel and is used in traditional medicine.
