The Olive Tree, scientifically known as Olea europaea, is a small to medium-sized evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean region. Highly valued for both its ornamental beauty and culinary importance, it can grow up to 10 m tall in its natural form, while dwarf varieties typically reach a more manageable height of 1.5–2.5 m, making them suitable for gardens and container planting.
The tree is easily recognized by its gnarled trunk and elegant, silvery-green oblong leaves that give it a timeless, Mediterranean appearance. In spring, the Olive Tree produces small, fragrant, creamy-white flowers, which later develop into oval-shaped fruits that ripen to a deep purple-black color in the fall. These olives are prized for their oil, widely used in cooking, cosmetics, and traditional medicine. Hardy and long-lived, the Olive Tree thrives in warm, sunny locations and prefers well-drained soil. It is slow-growing but extremely resilient once established.
