Guava Tree (Psidium guajava)
The Guava Tree is a small to medium-sized fruiting tree from the Myrtaceae (myrtle) family, valued for its fragrant flowers and delicious, nutrient-rich fruit. Native to tropical regions of Central and South America, it is now widely cultivated across Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. The tree typically grows up to 2 meters in height, though many cultivated varieties are maintained around 1.2 meters for easier harvesting and management.
The tree features smooth, thin bark that is light brown to gray in color. Its leaves are oval-shaped, glossy, and dark green with a slightly leathery texture. Guava produces small, white, fragrant flowers that develop into round or oval fruits measuring about 4–12 cm in diameter. The fruits have green to yellow skin and sweet, juicy flesh that may be white, pink, or red depending on the variety.
Guava Trees are hardy and adaptable, capable of growing in a wide range of soil types, making them an excellent choice for home gardens and orchards.
