Green Fountain Grass (Pennisetum Setaceum)
Green Fountain Grass, also known as Tender Fountain Grass and scientifically named Pennisetum setaceum, is a graceful ornamental grass native to Africa and the Middle East. While the species can grow up to 1.5 m tall, landscaping varieties are typically more compact, reaching heights of about 40–60 cm. The plant features long, narrow green leaves that can grow up to 60 cm in length, forming a soft, arching mound.
Its most distinctive feature is the fluffy, bottlebrush-like flower spikes that appear in late summer and fall. These blooms are usually pink or purple, though white and green varieties are also available. The flowers are borne on long, arching stems that sway elegantly in the breeze, creating the fountain-like effect for which the plant is named. Easy to grow and low in maintenance, Green Fountain Grass thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, and can tolerate light shade and drought once established.
