Chickoo Tree (Manilkara zapota)
The Chickoo Tree, scientifically known as Manilkara zapota, is a tropical evergreen tree native to Central America and Mexico. Typically growing 1–2 m tall in cultivated settings, it forms a dense, rounded crown with glossy, dark green, oval-shaped, leathery leaves. The tree produces small, fragrant greenish-white flowers, which are followed by round or oval fruits about 10 cm in diameter. The fruits have brown, rough skin that is easy to peel, revealing sweet, creamy pulp rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, and calcium, with several black, shiny seeds. Chickoo Trees are valued for their delicious fruit and are a popular choice for tropical gardens.
