Bottle Palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis)

The Bottle Palm, scientifically known as Hyophorbe lagenicaulis, is a distinctive and ornamental palm native to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. It is best recognized for its unique bottle-shaped trunk, which is swollen at the base and gradually tapers toward the top. The trunk is grayish-brown in color and typically grows up to 3 m tall, while the long, slender fronds can reach lengths of up to 1.8 m.

This palm is slow-growing and may take up to 10 years to reach maturity. It thrives in warm, humid climates and is widely used as a decorative feature in tropical gardens and landscapes. The Bottle Palm is also suitable for indoor cultivation, as it tolerates lower light levels and requires relatively simple care.
