Agave, commonly known as the Century Plant and scientifically called Agave americana, is a striking succulent native to Mexico and the southwestern United States. Belonging to the Agavaceae family, it is widely cultivated in tropical and arid regions for its architectural foliage and dramatic flowering spike.

This slow-growing plant forms a large rosette of thick, fleshy leaves that can reach up to 2 m in length. The leaves are edged with sharp teeth, making Agave an effective choice for security hedges and protective landscaping. Mature plants take up to 10 years to flower, producing a tall flower spike that can reach 8 m in height. The spike bears clusters of small, yellow-green flowers that bloom in summer, attracting bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators.

Agave is drought-tolerant, thrives in full sun, and adapts to a variety of soil types, though it prefers well-draining soil. Its bold form, low maintenance, and striking blooms make it a standout feature in xeriscapes, rock gardens, and modern landscapes.
