Chinese Fan Palm (Livistona chinensis)
The Chinese Fan Palm, scientifically known as Livistona chinensis, is a popular ornamental palm native to southern Japan, Taiwan, and China. It is a slow-growing tree that can reach heights of up to 30 ft, though it typically grows to around 15 ft tall. The palm has a single trunk covered in fibrous, brownish-gray bark, topped with a crown of large, fan-shaped leaves. Each leaf can grow up to 6 ft in length, with bright, glossy green segments that create a feathery, elegant appearance.
During the flowering season, the Chinese Fan Palm produces small, yellowish-white flowers on long, branching inflorescences that emerge from the base of the leaves. Hardy and adaptable, this palm adds a tropical and architectural element to gardens, patios, and landscaped areas.
